Adding DSC alarm panel to ZipaTile

Hello. I'm attempting to connect the Zipatile to a DSC panel via GlobalCache Serial to IP converter. Is there any documentation on where I should even start please?

I have so far created 2 DSC networks (I'm not sure why there are 2 controllers visible). When I try to add a new DSC device, it asks for me installer code but then hangs on "Starting Device Inclusion Process..."

Hello Arski,

To be honest, I'm not sure the GC IP2SR is working as a simple media converter which is what you need for this use case.

We have developed and tested DSC and Paradox IP connections with WizNet media converters (specifically wiz110sr) and it proved to be working.

Since it is hanging on the Central discovery, there could be many possible reasons but lets assume for starters that the media converter is okay.

I'm enclosing screenshots of proper media converter configuration for DSC. Keep in mind, these are wiznet screenshots - but general principle applies to every converter.

IP address has to be static and configured. These are screenshots for Paradox but the same applies for DSC with one exception.

You need to change the Option - Data Packing Condition from 255 to 2048.

Next thing, DSC IP implementation demands that each zone name starts with a partition name.

E.G.:

Partition: KITCHEN

Zones: KITCHEN ZONE 1, KITCHEN ZONE 2, KITCHEN ZONE N...

Partition: ROOM

Zones: ROOM ZONE 1, ROOM WINDOW, ROOM ZONE 3...

And one more thing, IT IS REQUIRED TO ENTER THE INSTALLER PIN ON THE DSC KEYPAD BEFORE LAUNCHING DISCOVERY ON THE ZIPATILE.

Hope this helped you out.

Vedran

I've tried everything, still a no-go. It gets me as far as Starting device inclusion process... - there is no countdown, it just sits there.

I've tried different serial-to-IP converters, I bought wiz110sr, duplicated the settings, still nothing.

I'll appreciate any help. Even if I have to pay for it. <facepalm>

@vedran

you said """We have developed and tested DSC and Paradox IP connections with WizNet media converters (specifically wiz110sr) and it proved to be working.""

IS that mean the wired existing alarm system is combinaed with zipatile succefully?

Can you give me a documentation on such configuration?

i'll aprreciate your help

@Hanic - there seems to be no documentation on this, other what you have seen on this forum. I'm working with support right now to get more details as I cannot get this to work on my end. I will be happy to share my findings with you once some progress is made. I will also post it on our unofficial wiki.

@Vedran, thank you. I will give this a shot tonight and report back.

@Vedran, what serial cable should I be using between DSC IT100 and Wiz110sr? Null Modem or Straight Through?

Also, this is supposed to be a private support ticket, how did it become a public forum post?

Hi Arsly,

I've been following this topic because I've given up with the USB integration (Paradox to Zipatike)

Regarding Wiznet config: what should I put on the server IP? Wiznet ip, Alarm ip, Zipatile ip, other?

I am waiting your post on the wiki!

Hi Pablo,

My suggestion is not to waste your time on this. I spent a lot of time testing this setup with the WizNet board, GlobalCache ip2sl and a USB to Serial interface. I was never able to get past the "Starting Device Inclusion Process..." stage. I was working with Support for a while and just when I thought I was getting close, Sebastian closed the ticket and told me to ask the community for help. I almost fell off my chair LOL.

My dealer also reached out to Zipato about this issue as a lot of clients (at least in North America) want seamless integration with DSC) and apparently someone from Support said that "they were working on a fix." So it seems it's a known issue. Why not just admit that it's not working then? Zipato's lack of transparency is mind boggling.

I've since abandoned the Zipato ecosystem and I'm back on Vera for my own house.

Wow!! What sad news you leaving! You were an active user willing to make Zipato solution even better!

I did have also the no-countdown problem: was an issue recognised by support and now countdown works, not the detection on my alarm.

I will follow your recommendation regarding the alarm integration if my ticket is not solved during following days. But I will follow the solution found by others regarding some signals integration using PGM and a Fibaro Universal Sensor.

I guess if you are leaving you will support anymore the wiki?! It would be nice to post there your experience with Vera and their PROS and CONS.

Good luck Arski!

Thanks Pablo. I will keep running the wiki for as long as there seems to be interest from the Zipato community.

In terms of Vera, I've been using it for years with much success. It's not the type of system I would recommend to my clients, but its low price, flexibility and strong community support make it the perfect DYI solution for my personal use. I really wanted to stay with Zipato, but it's proven to be too flaky in my experience. I will continue using the Zipatiles as my primary displays, as they are truly one of the nicest looking wall-mounted displays on the market.

Happy New Year!

DSC WIZNET 110 sr configuration. This is the quickest way to connect to wiznet 110sr via Windows 10.

******** DONOT FORGET TO ENTER DSC PANEL INSTALLER CODE BEFORE ADDING NETWORK IN ZIPATO*****

I’ve just acquired a WIZ110SR board but I was unable to get the configuration tool to find the board with the search function when running it via a wired LAN connection to a Window 10 laptop. This included: Turning off the Wifi Turning off the Windows Defender firewall. Both these actions have been recommended in other posts about the WIZ110SR. My conclusion is that something else on Windows 10 besides the firewall is blocking or interfering with UDP broadcasts. I have a work round that does allow you to find the board under Windows 10. This relies on one big assumption - that all WIZ110SR boards have the same factory defaults. First step is to find out what the factory defaults on my board were. This is a side step just to get this knowledge which hopefully others can use. Running the config tool on a Windows XP machine (even with the XP firewall active) does allow the “Search” function to find the board and display its MAC address. So on XP the UDP broadcast used to find the board is not blocked. I was able to verify that settings on the board could be changed and by performing a factory reset the values changed back. This gives me confidence that I now know what the factory default values are. 1) Preforming a factory reset a) Short the two solder pads on the "SW1" marked part of the board -

before the board is powered b) Power the board c) Wait until the board boots (I just counted to 10 to be sure) and then remove the short d) As a check remove power and add power back (no short now) This should put the board back to initial factory state. 2) The default values (at least on my board): Network Serial Debug: ON Static IP: ON Local IP: 192.168.11.2 Port: 5000 Subnet: 255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.11.1 Server IP: 192.168.11.3 Port: 5000 Operation mode: Mixed Serial Speed: 57600 Data bits: 8 Parity: None Stop bit: 1 Flow: None Options Inactivity time: 0 Data packing conditions: Time: 0 Size: 0 Char: 00(hex) Password TCP: OFF Serial config: OFF Now with this information I was able to get the WIZ100SR config tool to find the board on my Windows 10 laptop by doing the following. Turn off wifi Via the Windows Control Panel select “Network and Sharing Center” select your wired LAN connection and (temporary) change this to fixed IP and give it an IP address 192.168.11.1 (subnet mask 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.11.1) - i.e. it must be on the same subnet as the WIZ110SR board. (If this isn’t done you will not be able to find the board - period) Turn on (check) the “Direct IP Search” box in the config tool and enter the boards factory default IP address 192.168.11.2 Click the search button. You should see the MAC address of your board in the Board List So in summary if a UDP broadcast search is not working for your computer the key bits to solve this are: A) Do a factory reset of the board. B) Know what the factory Local IP address is (hopefully all boards have the same) C) Set the computers wired LAN to be on the

same subnet as the board D) Check the "Direct IP Search" and enter the board's default local IP address E) Click the "Search" button

After you set your parameters in the Configurator tool hit the settings button to upload.

Easiest way is to connect to the ethernet port on your laptop, forgoing your router.
