Scenes with Alexa

Bernd shared this question 6 years ago
Answered

I installed a brand new Amazon Echo Dot and the Zipato Skill.

Devices were recognized immediately. But Zipato scenes show up under devices as well and it is not possible to run the scenes via Alexa. When I ask to add scenes no scenes were found.

I would like to tell Alexa "Alexa run scene All Lights Off"

Is that not podssible with the Zipato Skill?

Bernd

As you mention, for some reason scenes are recognized as devices. Have you tried "Alexa, turn ON all lights off"? I know it is contradictory command but it works for me.

Or you can intuitively name your scene "Shutdown" and the say "Alexa, turn shutdown on".

But if the objective is to turn a group of lights on and off, I would not do it with scenes, just group them together under rules, name the group "All lights", then sync echo. And now you can call "Alexa, turn all lights off/on".

As far as scenes goes, now that Echo has routines which can be called with custom commands, I would set up a routine on Echo and call it to execute whatever scene you have on ZIpato.

Hi,

we are waiting for Amazon to approve our Alexa skill V3.

In the meanwhile the scenes have to be used as devices and.. you need to "turn it on"

So basically "Alexa turn on *scene*" does the trick.
