Prevent use of device with virtual switch

Jeroen Leeflang shared this question 7 years ago
Need Answer

I have two outdoor sunblinds that can be used with a physical wall switch aswell.

Unfortunately sometimes people misplace one of the sunblind switches for a light switch and they accedentaly lower the sunblind. Also if it rains or when its windy of at night.

Is it possible to disable a device from being operated using a rule. For examble disable the entire device from operating after sunset or when raining of with hard wind?

This would depend if the physical wall switch is connected to a z-wave module or directly to the motor. If not, nothing will stop it directly controlling the blinds/awnings.

Even if it is connected there may be some issues depending on the module you are using. For example, the switch will override the module and settings most of time. The controller may be able to stop the module after it is started but probably not before.

Need more info on what type of module/brand you are using and how it is connected.

I use Duwi z-wave blind controllers (https://www.z-wave.me/index.php?id=38)

This device is directly connected to the motor of the sunblind.

Jeroen,

Based on this manual of your device (http://www.uk-automation.co.uk/content/pdf/DUW_blind.pdf) you cannot disable it. Since the buttons are configured to operate directly (without controller) this will always work, the best you can do according to this is configure times of operation and limit positions.

The only idea that occurs to me is to install a z-wave relay on the AC feed of the blind controller, this way you could turn it off using a rule in the controller.
