Alexa echo skill for Spain

Viriato0811 shared this thanks 8 months ago

Dear Zipato team,

Amazon will make Alexa available in Spain as from next 30th October. Is there any plans to bring your Zipato skill to Spain?

Many thanks

Hi Viriato,

I tried and it is working already in Spanish, I can control devices in plain Spanish :-)

I cannot add Zipato skill to my Amazon Echo because that skill is not available in amazon.es.Should I remove the Echo and register it again with an Amazon.com account?

Good question,.. I had mine previously registered at Amazon.com and working in English,.. I guess Zipato should publish the skill in Spanish, meanwhile you could register your Alexa in Amazon.com and later changing the language,..

Muchas gracias Gerardo. What a great news!

Did you have to deregister and register again your Echo devices so that they understand Spanish?

Ever so slightly off-topic: I have my Echo Spot in English, but my mobile is in German, so even though Alexa is set to English, when I try to use Alexa on the mobile, she tries to interpret my English commands as German (and fails). Do you have any confusion of this sort (e.g. your mobile in Spanish and Alexa set to English)?

It looks like a bug to me.

Alberto, enter in Alexa settings and there you can choose the default language

hiCan you change the language to Spanish for other countries or only in Spain does it work in Spanish?

I can only say that Alexa-Zipato placed in Spain works either in English and Spanish, I did not try with rest of languages or countries ;-)

2nd gen Echo Dots will not be able to change language into Spanish, at least for the time being. This has been confirmed with Amazon Spain.

I have either Echo and Echo Spot working in Spanish,.. my new Echo dot is in its way,.. I will try and let you know

New Echo dots will have no issue to do Spanish. The problem is only with 2nd gen Echo Dots. You can check Amazon's Alexa Devices forum and read the "nice" inflammatory stuff against Amazon for its decision of leaving 2nd gen Echo Dots with no Spanish.

Lot of "it works for me" noise in this post, but reality is that the skill can not be enabled with Amazon.es, so does not work.

There is no guideline to make it work, and as a paying customer owning a Zipabox, this is quite frustrating.

For the same question for Italy, there was a clear answer from the team. Can please provide a date for the Spanish version?

thank you

David, what you call 'noise' is just information, many Zipato users managed to get Alexa running in Spanish with an UK Amazon account. This is not the best, of course, but at least there is a workaround to get it running until the official Spanish or italian version is released. We all are pushing Zipato to get a more stable solution, with more features, with a new GUI,.. it is clear that resources are limited for so many demands, and many of tham are a must

Hi Gerardo

I appreciate you shared that there is a workaround, IMHO would have been better you do in another thread and leave this for the request to zipato to give a date. Compared to the Italian request, they asked for a solution, and someone at zipato answered with a potential date, but here there is no pressure to them because something is supposed to work and no one complains anymore.

In that other thread explaining the spanish workaround, I would have provided a step-by-step guide about how to unlink the amazon.es account and create an amazon.co.uk account instead, but what is done, it is already done.

The true pressure I recommend is that you leave zipato as the controller. It is what I am doing, where Samsung SmartThings have a working (spanish) skill, it supports zigbee and z-wave for 90 EUR, and there is no anoyying yearly fees to do things that should be included in the product.

Good luck to everyone staying here.
