Backup rules, devices and settings

Bambam shared this idea 8 years ago
Under Consideration

After replacing my Zipabox, my account had to be associated with the new box. It lost all it's devices, rules and settings. I have to recreate everything from scratch, without the examples being preset to copy it from. It would be a lot more use friendly if it's possible to migrate all the devices, rules and settings to a new box.

yes, an export/import configuration should be nice.

Backup can be done that way. When you done mistakes, you can camoe back to initial config.

I agree, this would be a great feature.

+1, I think the convenience aspect alone would deter some people to migrate to another brand should the Zipabox fail.

Yes please.

More import/import export of the rules!

To share rules, etc.

I agree, I am very uncomfortable with not having some way to back-up the many rules I have created

Dear Zipato, any update on that?

I know that there is a backup feature if you have a pro. A little sad to have pro for this. If I would have to replace my zipabox I have to create all the 200 rules again just because I do not have pro, feels a bit annoying.

I totally agree with Jimmy! Zipato have made a choice to use cloud based rule creator - how can one understand that no backup functionality is provided out of the box? For most of the people using internet that is the advantages of using cloud based storage!

Thats exactly what quite a lot of people asked me about my Amazon rezension. They can not understand, that a cloud based solution has no save feature and asked me, how I could give five stars for a system, lacking standard basic features. Perhaps Zipato will one day change their mind and allow at least one backup point for all customers. I bought the box long before 1.0 and thought all my rules would be save in the cloud. If I had known that a backup-feature is only planned and that I have to pay another 100 Euros I might have gone for another system. Don´t get me wrong: Right now I´m quite satisfied with my Zipabox, all my rules run and I think the system has quite some potential. But the day my box breaks down and support tells me, that there is no backup, I will instantly change it from five to one star and start with an other system from scratch. (Think I would even skip 433Mhz which was a key factor for aiming at zipato. But I thought all 433 MHz devices from different brands would be available, correct me if I´m wrong, but now I think every brand counts for the brandlimit of three so without pro licence the 433 module is only good for one or two brands (if you skip virtual devices). Quite disappointing. So I don´t question the pro feature in general, but where they have drawn the line. At least for Germany I think it´s a mistake to geld the system in that way if you want more customers.

I can only agree with Klaus, I also bought my Zipabox long before 1.0 and then had zipabox many other problems like constant reboots that is now resolved. Now pull the box with huge problems with reporting statuses and that some units disappear and some devices turns on or off automatically. This may have with any server to do or some bug and I do think that zipato will solve it, too, but it takes a lot of time to keep on with this. The reason I chose zipabox is at that moment was that I had many 433MHz devices but now I have virtually no such remains, but only Z-Wave and Sonos devices so now I am considering replacing the controller because of zipatos cloud service, and that it can not back up the rules without pro and all the other problems I mentioned. Is there any other controller that have as good a rule creator or better than zipato and stores the rules in the controller with backup function that is not dependent on a cloud and that supports Z-Wave and Sonos, vera plus?

Zipato have said "next week" for several months as I know, but as far as I know it is still not available to PRO user either.

This is totally normal for Zipato, and I would not bet any money for a release this year either.

They are marketing the feature on youtube and so on, but it is not launched

And that this is a PRO feature is just redicolus...

I just spent 100 $ just to have this feature, but after my purchase... surprise!

Backup is not available.

I think this is not fair at all.
