Request for Info on Zipato Servers High Availability solution deployed to avoid Server down

Need Answer

Could you share with the community some information on your servers

high-availability solution you deployed to make sure your cloud solution

reaches close to 100% availability even in case of HW failure and/or

servers upgrades.

In the past weeks, there were significant

servers availablity issues. Because rules and "Http devices" requires

the server connection to work. When server is down, the box does not

work properly, affecting reliability of the box, and honestly now we can

only but have doubts on your servers' availability when a rule does not

work properly.

Therefore, can you share with the users community which high-availability solution you have deployed for your servers ?

Sebastian, would it be possible to send an automated email to all your connected customers to at least let them know, that there are issues? That would help much to increase the confidence in the system and to handle such issues on customer side.

In this particular case, we had an issue with one of servers only. The server was not completely down but was working extremely slow and self recovery system wasn't aware of the issue. Sending emails wouldn't be much helpful as the problem is anyway fixed instantly after we realized it.

Sure an email would not be good , but we could have a status to query in our system similar to cloud status stating that everything is ok and would prevent us from digging into our system when the problem is elsewhere

It´s a good idea Christian, but for the time being for bigger issues I would appreciate a hint from Zipato which pops up without the neccessity to open the support page. But for this specific case I understand Sebastian´s point of view.

This has been requested to Zipato over and over, at one point they gave us updates through the announcement section on this forum but they stopped. I agree this is a MUST, maybe automated email to the users wouldn't work so much cause probably won't work since it would be in the same server (down). But at least through this forum or like others do, on their main webpage. I wonder how many times people needs to ask for this so Zipato realizes how important it is for users and the company itself.

Hello ZIPATO team, I am reactivating this thread because I am seeking for an answer on a very simple question :

which high-availability solution have you deployed for your servers to provide 24/7 services ?

-> you claim on your website that you provide 24/7 service, therefore, please inform your users what system is in place to grant this level of availability.

It is a very fair question, and I do not understand why you do not provide answers.

About 2 years ago I have been banned from this forum and my initial thread removed because I was request an answer too hard as we experienced several servers outages.

My conclusion was that Zipato management was refusing to answer and by doing this Zipato behavior was not at the level we could expected from "professionals" and Zipato was more acting like "amateurs"

This time, I hope you will answer.

https://www.zipato.com/how-it-works/overview

here Zipato say they use Amazon EC2/S3 servers for 24/7 monitoring, but thats it. I agree when they say they have 24/7 monitoring for a security solution and I have experienced many server issues that result in being unable to dis/arm a system or missed events, then this is not a 24/7 system. If they said they had a 99% uptime/connection like other solutions, I would understand. But with no transparency with the server uptimes or even when there will be maintenance or outages, it is extremely frustrating from a user and integrator perspective.

when did you experience the server issue last time:-)

3 weeks ago. But overall server connections have been relatively stable for some many months now, i think.

But I can not confirm if it is stable or I just dont realise when the server goes offline as we are not trying to program at that time. The most frustrating issue has always been the lack of notifications if server work is being undertaken, as it usually happens when on site trying to program a system. This costs us money and your reputation, not to mention a clients faith in the ability of the system to stay online.

We also need the app to automatically switch to a local connection when on the same LAN.

Saturday's morning outage make this topic actual than ever.

Why high availability did not work and we experienced a three hours dowtime?

What action are planned to prenvent this to happening anymore?

Thanks in advance for any clear answer to this topics.

I agree, please provide us with more information.

It was nice Zipato used the announcement page for once, but there should have been emails, twitter or facebook posts also. I dont even look at the announcement page anymore as it was unused for so long.

Any update on this?

As usual noone is answering letting this topic going down in the list ...

you know who do this very well https://status.athom.com/

This is what Zipato should simply do. A quick user friendly interface to check server status

From my perspective the key point is not knowing if Zipato's servers are up or down but know what Zipato effectively do to ensure that the whole service work.

During last service outage, lasted a couple of hours, me and an other bunch of user where unable to deactivate the alarm.

Deactivating the alarm should be a local feature...

Deactivating should be possible at any time!

Don't get your hopes up regarding a status page for the service. I asked for this three years ago, and this feature request has a lot of votes: https://community.zipato.com/topic/status-page-for-zipato-cloud-service

Still nothing has happened... but.. please keep voting! ;)

Zipato disappeared from the topic, especially after the phrase: "when did you experience the server issue last time:-)"Local control MUST be possibile everytime, with or without internet connetion, with or without server connection: we can't think to be prisoners of our home due to a server issue, this is totally unreasonable and unacceptable for an home automation solution.
