What's the algorithm of the thermostat?

I'd like to know how the thermostat behave? What's the algorithm?
Is it possible to define some parameters or templates on it? Because I think it should not be the same for an appartment, an house, a big room, basic radiators, radiators with oil...

The outdoor temperature can be fetched with a thermometer or with a weather device (already available on zipabox).
