HTTP Request to Synology Surveillance Station

Robin GUILLET shared this problem 6 years ago

Hi,

As specified for external triggers in Surveillance station, I try to send a HTTP request from my Zipabox when alarm is armed or disarmed.

The URL specified is quite easy and works really fine when I test it in Internet Browser, on PC or Phone.

It is : https://192.168.0.10:5001/webapi/entry.cgi?api=SYNO.SurveillanceStation.ExternalEvent&method="Trigger"&version=1&eventId=2&eventName="AlarmeDesactivee"&account="account"&password="password"

I tried set it from the HTTP request tile in Puzzle rule creator of Zipabox but never been able to trigger the Syno, neither in Get or Post method...

Any idea? p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px 'Helvetica Neue'; color: #454545} p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px 'Helvetica Neue'; color: #454545}

I also tried from external network using my public IP instead of 192.168.0.10 and it also works in Internet Browser, but still not in Http request tile...

What about a PUT request? Phillips Hue works with PUT requests from Zipabox.

Actually, Put Method is more logic, you are right. But It does not work either...

I wonder if the issue is not due to the httpS needed for the request.

OK I confirm the issue was about the https connection. With my Syno configured with access in http on an other port, I've been able to create the request with a Get method.

Thx Alberto for your advice anyway.

That is annoying. How could we make it work with HTTPS?

I guess if you want to keep the HTTPS request, you should create the request through a third-party service such as IFTTT or any other, and trigger this service with zipabox http request...

That's the only way I can see for now.

Hey Robin,

I'm about to invest into a NAS to integrate with Zipato Security System at home and to be used as NVR. I see Sinology and QNAP are the most commonly used brands around here, however I don't have experience with any of their Surveillance Station, I think you are doing something like what I want, to have your surveillance cameras (perhaps with motion detect) recording to your NAS only when you arm the system... Do you have any experience with QNAP? can you share a bit more about your setup?? Thanks.

Hey Alberto.

This is exactly my setup :

- When I arm alarm, Synology Surveillance enables the camera and the motion detection.

- Whenever a motion is detected by the camera, it records 10sec before the motion to 2minutes after.

- Whenever on the zipabox, the alarm is tripped, it sends a http request to Surveillance Station to start recording (starting 10secs before to 2 minutes after).

- When I disarm alarm, camera is disabled.

- I'm considering recording all the time when alarm is armed, + taking snapshots when alarm is tripped (Surveillance Station can handle a circular buffer of, by example, 1GB). not sure it will increase protection...

You can connect as many camera as you wish. I'll soon have a second one for outdoor

I dont know QNAP systems, but I've never been deceived by my Syno. It's juste incredible all the things you can do with it! (but maybe QNAP has the same level of functionnality...)

Thanks for your feedback Robin, I'm going to buy my NAS pretty soon and this is one of the main reasons I want to buy it. I have found Synology Web API references but not for QNAP, I asked them directly though to see what they say, there are two features that I really like about QNAP, they have HDMI 4k ports and you can access the NAS also by using USB cable (not only through network), but if their surveillance station cannot integrate like this with zipato is going to be a game changer.

This is the one I want;

If your NAS is next to your TV, HDMI is nice feature.

Actually, I stream videos from my NAS with my AppleTV box, or my Internet Provider TV box sometimes, and my NAS is located in a secured hidden place (in the attic).

One major limitation of Surveillance Station I did not notice before is that it is license-free for up to 2 cams. Then, it is needed to pay license to have more cams...

QNAP is the same way, you need to buy more licenses if required, every model of NAS have different number of free "licenses" in the case of 453 it has 2 included.
