First time managing a variable

Hi,

I'm creating a rule for Air contitiioning management.

I want the rule check every 5 minutes status of room temperatures and if lower than predicted acting the heating while if over, switching off the AC.

In order to avoid that every 5 minutes the rule run sending IR signals to the AC, I thought to use variable for my first time in the life.

As I wrote it, it doesnt' work.

Someone could help me?

Other question: Maybe is there an alternative way to obtain same result?
