In most Z-Wave applications we configure them so that the central controller handles all commands. So for example a motion detector would send a signal to the controller and as a second step the controller would send a command to a Z-Wave dimmer to turn on a light.

Associating the motion detector and dimmer enables the motion detector to send signals directly to the dimmer without involving the controller. This saves time, reduces the complexity of the communication and the amount of airtime taken. It also allows sensors to be used in networks without a static controller.

Jesper,

I actually opened a topic with a question and then opened a ticket regarding this without any answer, I hope you know the answer. I have a rule that turns on a Zipato RGBW bulb if a Fibaro Motion Sensor detects motion and the ilumination is not enough. After reading the fibaro motion sensor manual I noticed it has the ability of controlling directly other devices such as the RGBW bulb if its associated to the 2nd group (1st is always the controller). My question is, if I add the association in the second group, will the motion sensor 2nd group basic on comand will overwrite my rule (not considering ilumination since the basic set command is only triggered based on motion)? or it will only be "enabled" when the controller is not reachable? Thanks.

Alberto, those are independent events.

Think of it this way.

The rules trigger whenever the WHEN happens and the conditions occur.

The association will trigger whenever there is a motion on Fibaro Eye.

they will not be overridden or disabled. they will both happen.

Now the problem is in what order and will happens but this all depends on your configuration.

My best guess, according with your explanation, since you have the association it will turn on the light whenever there is motion detected.

at the same time, if the LUX is on your configuration, the zipato will send the same command to the dimmer as well

Thanks Filipe,

Then I don't think the second group association is useful unless you don't have a controller...
