How do I setup smart thermostat with ziptile

Hello,
I am about the buy the zipatile for home. I a wondering what other devices I need to purchase to be able to setup the smart thermostat. How does it work? it controls valves? if I have a central boiler for the whole home that distributes warm water to the room heaters, what else I need to add to the zipatile ?
I can't find any documentation related.
