Best way to create rule to monitor PowerSupply *before* the UPS
Answered
Hi guys,
I'm looking for the best way to monitor the supply of mains power, and to get notified if there is a power outage.
I have connected the Zipato and routers etc behind a UPS, and I'd like to get a warning as soon as possible if mains power is lost. One idea is to connect e.g. a Fibaro Wall Plug FGWPE/F-101or similar, directly to mains, and to have Zipato monitor this particular device every few minutes.
I have, however, not found any clever way to create a rule to monitor either connectivity of a device, or to read the voltage.
Any ideas, anyone?
Best regards,
Robert
No connection
Real-time notifications may not work
I think the Fibaro plug will not work.
When the power is off the Plug can´t send to the box any data.
Better would be the Philio PAB01 Smart Energy In Wall meters.
Voltage from the UPS and the clamp to the main power.
Or a relay at the power supply and a universal sensor Fibaro

Indeed. Once the power is off, the device would be offline and not be able to communicate. Also I tend to stay away from fibaro devices, they are great marketing, mutual not that great in reality.

Maik and Attila,
Thanks for excellent suggestions. I'll give the smart energy meter a try.

i use the expansion backup power module for the Zipabox, and run a rule when this is activated or resumes charging. The router still runs off a UPS, just not the Zipabox

Adrian,
I didn't know the Backup Power Module had a "sensor" indicating its mode. This is definitely the way to go!
Thanks a lot!

Adrian,
Thanks for the sample. I'll get a Backup Power Module immediately, and definitely use that to monitor mains power on several places. The solutions we have in place today are a lot more complex and depend on status input from UPSes. While the latter is useful in many places, it's an overkill on others.
