Cluster Setup

Hi,

I could not find anything on the knowledgebase about this. When creating a cluster - how do you determine which device will be the master?

I want my Zipatile to be the master and have the zipabox as the slave.

Is there anything i have to do when setting up the cluster to do this?

Thanks

Ian

1. No. These devices will not be reachable, as they are controlled by the controller that is failing.

2. You will need to backup your controller and when you replace it, restore the backup to the new controller. Remember though that not all your rules will be restored. Or rules in the CLuster controller will need to be fixed again to re include the devices that were originally programmed to the old controller.

A cluster in a virtual controller that includes all the controllers within the cluster. It then communicates with the individual controllers so that you dont have to change/login another controller. It communcates with the all controllers over IP (your local network), not z-wave or zigbee. The individual controllers themselves control the actual z-wave/etc devices.

Hello Ian,

a cluster is a virtual controller which is above the both of your physical controllers, therefore you don't have to set one controller as a master, which is basically the point. I hope this helps. ☺

Get back to us if you will need any further help.

Hi Stefan

Many thanks. When I set a sister up before I thought I saw something that listed the member devices as master and slave. My main concern is that the zipatile does the hard work as it has better hardware.

Once in a cluster, do I add new devices to the cluster or the individual controllers that are part of the clusters?

Thanks

Ian

Hello Ian,

when adding devices to controllers which are in a cluster you have the option of selecting which controller you want the devices to be added to, so - yes, you can add most of the devices to the ZipaTile of yours (if these are in the range). About the master setting, it is regarding the users.

Best regards,

Stefan

I would be also interested in some more information about the cluster. This whole cluster idea does not make sense to me because I don't understand it.

I would like to know:

1. if one box is failing, will the devices from that box still be reachable?

2. if answer on 1 is no. What is the scenario to get these devices working again if the box cannot be repaired?

Thanks
