Controlling multiple Zipato RGBW bulbs

Alexus shared this question 7 years ago
Need Answer

Is it possible to bind several RGBW bulbs in the Zipato control panel, so when one of those is changed the rest will follow?

I have 3 bulbs to be installed next to each other on the ceiling, which I would like to control homogeneously.

Feedback appreciated.

Alexus,

You could create a Scene consisting of the bulbs, and control the scene instead of the individual bulbs.

Robert, scene is only good for one state. Once you want to play with one bulb, it would be a problem.

According the the manual the bulb only supports one group and only one device in the group. So accordingly to the manual it is not possible (only one device can control the light). Shame.

Hi Attila,

I was thinking about the same thing. Do you know if it is possible by binding or grouping (not native binding)? I don't even know how to achieve this with Zipato.

No, it is not. I just scrolled through all the device and opened each one to see where I can find any binding, but no luck. Not possible to bing bulbs together at all for the moment. Zipato would need to program a new firmware for the bulb and allow it to accept more devices in a group.

Would it work to create a virtual sensor, and to have a rule which sets all relevant bulbs according to the values set in the sensor?

Well, I guess so. Setting up a rule to track any change (When block) of the intensity of any of the bulb, JOIN puzzle between the WHEN and the IF block using a variable to store the value of the change and then action to change this value to all bulbs.

Now sure how quock it would be and I only have one bulb. So unable to try.

Tecnically that is what the groups are for, but you would be only able to control them from the rule creator simultaneously. Unfortunatelly this functionality does not work, I have a ticket opened for almost 10 months already without fix or update.

Hi,

Unfortunately I don't have such lamps available so I won't be able to test this, so perhaps someone else can test the following idea:

Create a virtual meter or sensor.

Create a rule which WHEN changes to the value in the meter/sensor, sets each of the lamps to the values read from the meter or sensor

Create a rule which changes the value in the virtual meter/sensor, based on physical or virtual switch actions (increase / decrease the value in the virtual meter/sensor.

hi guys, ive been doing this for the Osram lightify bulbs. Milan has recently added a warm/cool white feature to help sync the white value, which you could not do before. I could only sync the RGB as it returned a value, the whites did not. I just have not had the chance to test this but it should work.

Basically I just allow one bulb to be seen in the app. then have a rule that starts on any change, if rgb then set rgb value of the "group" (i created a group of all rgbw bulbs) rgb bulbs, to the value of the bulb that changes (the one seen and used in the app). Same goes for dimming and now white (hopefully).

Hi Dominik,

thanks for the video. But still I miss the easiness of controlling all these bulbs together from the dashboard. I guess the best approach is for Zipato to create a virtual RGBwWcW device where the user can bind to each channel one or several devices, similar to what you provide with the virtual thermostat. Addtionally the user can select which channels (RGB, wW, cW) are active. That selection refelcts what should be shown in the widget in the device list.

With this I believe you leave to your users the flexibility of customizing their devices and with it you provide a common solution for all available RGBW(W) devices in the market (3, 4 and 5 channel devices).
