device groups - what exactly are the features

Hi,

what exactly can be done with the device groups in the rule creator and how ?

For example i'd like to:

  • Create a group of all my window sensors and see if any of them is open or all of them are closed. How can this be achieved ? For the "any" case, is there a way to see which windows are open
  • Create a group of all my temperature sensors and find out the min, max and average values of that group
  • create a group of all my power meters and find out the min, max, average and total values of that group
  • create a group of my lights and turn them all on/off with one command or change color/brightness to a certain value
  • run through each member of a group in a loop and perform certain actions on each member of it

there might be more, but i'm asking for some information what can be done now and what will be available in the future. Where can i find this ?

When exactly will the group feature be useful, right now (especially without any documentation and not even a reply to questions here about usage/bugs) it is unusable ?

Max,

The usage of groups is still uncertain, there is no documentation about it. As I understand it's ment to group sensors and actuators only, not meters. I tried to use them but they don't work at all, and there is no configuration for them other than adding devices. I have an open ticket since January 2016 and still no answer other than "Our team is working on this issue, please be patient". This would be an awesome feature.

this "awesome" feature is something other vendors already provide for ages, and to be honest meanwhile it is really bothering that zipato always overpromises and underdelivers. They for sure have very good ideas about how their product should look like and what should be the features, but many of them just dont work - and this for ages. Still i will keep using it as i do seem some real cool new stuff from them and i really hope they catch up on the software side as well :)
