encryption on ip-camera access

Is there a way to add security camera / ip-camera without exposing password and user details?
As I understand the cam.zipato.com access to the camera is not encrypted and the username and password is sent in plain text over http. That is not very nice for a security feature, I don't won't to others to access my security cameras at home.
Why is this feature not https?
