Google Calendar Integration

Under Consideration

Hi guys,

I'm just getting started with home automation and the Zipabox.

I'd like to create rules based on my calendar.

For example,

1. to identify when you are going on vacation (so you could automate lights);

2. to identify when you will be home from a meeting/work (to preheat the house);

... maybe even control the alarm in some way.

Is there any way to do this using Zipato's rule creator? If not, are there any plans to?

I know this is possible using a "hack" with IFTTT but I wondered if there are any plans for "native" calendar integration?

Keep up the good work!

This would be VERY useful!

I only know of the IFTTT method.

For my part, I've written a rule programming in the dates of public holidays (which don't change, mostly), and my vacations (which I'll have to update once each year).

Sounds good, and I am sure they will get to it eventually. They do have a lot to do, so for now just use the IFTTT integration.

@ David: Can you post an example?

@Andreas: Sure. I've attached a partial snapshot of my rule (note: the rule is so long that it appears to have hit a Zipabox bug. If I try to add another date to it, the change is never saved. I advise splitting the rule into 2 parts).

First I initialise the variables and then wait 10 seconds. This is to avoid another Zipabox bug, one that prevents 2 changes in rapid succession to the same variable from being applied. I check the day of the week and set the appropriate switches for that. I then test the standard public holiday dates, the ones that never change, by just checking the day and month. These will sometimes fall on a weekend, but since I don't work on a weekend I don't need to take that into account. Others may need to. I then program in my holiday (vacation) dates for the year at the end. I need to alter these each year. I wanted to add two sets of dates, but couldn't because of the aforementioned bug. I then turn off the "working day" switch if it's a holiday or vacation.

Oh, and I run the rule just past midnight every day.

When I have time I will split the rule into two, one for public holidays and the other for vacations, running one shortly after the other.

THX!

Good idea. The bug with variables I have to test, because I built a virtual dimmer for a Fibaro RGBW Switch, which sometimes work and sometimes not (I hate if a machine does things sometimes...)

Yes it's pretty frustrating not to have things working reliably. I'm baffled that some of these bugs are taking so long to fix (I've reported them all, I've probably been blacklisted by now... :-p)
