How does the Fibaro Motion Sensor work with Zipabox?

Need Answer

I am replacing my old motions sensors with new smaller ones - and very interested in the nice looking Fibaro Motion Sensor.

But I have seen several posts on the forum describing that the Fibaro is much slower than e.g. Aeonlabs Gen. 6 when used with Zipato.

Can anybody comment on that?

Cheers

I am using this sensor for a long time and I am very satisfied. No delay.

no delay here either. In fact I actually think they are slightly faster.

The sensors are currently not working very well with the zipabox though!

Hi Jasper

How are they currently not working with the Zipabox?

Hi Thomas,

Fibaro sensors work fine, but be aware that they are expensive in use: they go through batteries quite fast...

They work pretty good, fast and they're nice devices. There are two cons, they are not zwave plus, range is ok but could be better. If you only have Z-wave plus devices in your network I would suggest you to use Aeon Labs multi sensor 6.

I think (or better hope) the battery consumption is affected by your settings. I use my fibaro sensor for nearly two month now and the battery still shows 100%. But I have to admit that I deactivated all those fancy lights and set up the intervall for temperature and luminance. (in my opinion luminance can´t be trusted anyway. I mainly get values between zero and 5 in a corridor which is never dark due to outside lights)

And I find the sensor quite responsive. In fact I didn´t expect it to be so responsive, even though I don´t know the one from Aeon.

Klaus,

How do you update the device with the new configuration parameters?

I´ve changed the sensor LED to inactive, synchronized the zipabox, but no change in the motion detector.

It still have the LED turn on on motion.

I´ve also tried to configuration of the node on the advanced tab. No luck.

Did you force a sync between the sensor and the ZipaBox? Otherwise you will have to wait for the wakeup-time to get the new settings in the sensor. (BTW, this is a common problem with battery operated devices.)

you can force the device to awake.

every time you change a setting, press the B button inside (don't remeber if it is a single time or 2 or 3 fast presses)

this happens because is a battery device and it's not always listening.

Hi Anders,

as some others mentioned before: The problem is, that the sensor doesn´t listen all the time. You have to awake the sensor by pressing the button. I too don´t remember the correct procedure but I think I pressed the butten three times, before I started the sync process. I´m still confused because I would have expected the sensor to take the new setting at least during the next wake up, but now I think, that you need to manually wake up the device to get the setting written into the sensor. Wake up time is 300 min in my case but to switch off the led I had to awake the sensor manually before sync.

Hi,

Thanks for answers:)

I´ve changed the config in the zipato config tab, and just waited out the awake time over night.

The next day the sensor had changed the settings.

On the next sensor i´ll buy ill try to force the settings into it.

Anders,

To manually "wake up" fibaro motion sensors you need to quickly press the B-button (inside the sensor) three times.
