How to make the Oregon Scientific temperature sensor (THN132N) work

I recently bought an Oregon Scientific temperature sensor (THN132N), but it performed erraticly when connected to the Zipabox (I have no idea how it works with an OS base station). I'd get one temperature update, then nothing for 1, 2, 12, 24 hours, then another update, and so on.
The Zipabox folks worked it out: you need to have the selector switch (next to the battery) in the middle position (2).

I am not at home, so I cannot check my sensors, but isn't the switch for choosing which channel to use?
I have multiple Oregons, but have never had any issues with them.

Yes, it's the channel switch. Apparently I needed to choose channel 2 before it would update regularly.
