Looking for a good in-wall relay & motion-sensor...

Need Answer

Hey there,

for my new project: automatic basement light, I am searching for a good (and small) in-wall relay. It will be mounted behind an existing light switch. Fibaro FGS-212, Qubino Flush or Philio PAN03?

Can I still use the manual switch, even in case the Zipabox is offline? Are they Z-Wave Plus?

Regarding the motion sensor, which one would you suggest? It should have a long battery life. ;-)

Kind regards,

Jan

Jan,

I can only really talk about Qubinos as relays. They are pretty small and can fit even ("very thight") on a european style boxes. Zipato also has their own relays, no experience with those either. Qubinos for the most part work pretty good, they are sometimes a bit difficult to include/exclude when they are connected to 110/120 VAC (button only works on 24 VDC).

For motion sensors I have experience with Fibaro Motion Sensors and Aeotec MS6, they both work well and to be honest the UV sensor in the MS6 is useless, readings never change, don't know if it is a Zipato problem or Aeotec problem. MS6 has the plus that can be used connected to power, I like the feedback from the LED's from Fibaro one.

I have setups with both and rules work pretty much the same with both. Regarding battery life I havent' used the MS6 with batteries since I have it plugged in, but Fibaro battery saving is pretty good, it also depends on how far is it from the controller and configuration.

I have Fibaro FGS-212 in almost all my light switches and found they work perfectly.

As for motion sensors I use Aeon Labs MultiSensor's.

Both of these work well together in my rules.

Thank you for your input!

Do the light switches work if the Zipabox is switched off?

yes

Qubino's work without the controller by wiring the switch to the right input. Forgot to mention Qubino's are z wave plus which is the main reason why I picked these over fibaro ones, don't know if they came up with the z wave plus version of their relays.

If you don't need to know the status of the device and want a device that just works very reliably and which also lets you use the existing light switch, why not try an 433 MHz Intertechno switch?

I have many of them. They work very well with the Zipabox, never fail and never disappear. And the fitting Intertechno wall switch and remote will also create an additional layer for operation.

And they cost half of what a Z-Wave switch costs...

The Fibaro is also Z-wave plus.
