Motion activated and manual light

John brännström shared this idea 8 years ago
Under Consideration

For a couple of lights around my house I have implemented a "motion activated and manual light" function. This function would be:

1) Light is turned on by motion.

2) Light is turned off by no motion, if it was not manually activated (with a light switch for example).

I myself find this kind of functionality easy to add with the current functionality of Zipatobox but; I'm a programmer by occupation :-)

My suggestion is to add the ability to activate a light for "auto/manual" mode, which would translate into a item with the following functionality:

1) Manual on.

2) Auto on.

3) Manual off.

4) Auto off.

5) Manual off always turns off the light.

6) Auto off only turns off "auto on".

7) Manual on changes "auto on" to "manual on".

I also wants this function with some of my lights.

Can you share your rules?

And do you have a time constraint. Like if you turn on your lights manually after some time they go to auto on/of and the other way around.

Auto lights go off after a configured amount of time. Manual lights never go off. Though, I have a general rule that turns all lights off at 00:00 or when the alarm is activated. But that's not really related.

I too would appreciate it if you would share your rules?

I'm not at home right now but I will make a post about this when I get home.

What I used to achieve this was:

1) A Nexa wall plugg to switch the light on/off.

2) A virtual switch.

3) A variable to indicate "manual" on/off.

4) A rule for manual on/off via the virtual switch (all rules that does a "manual" on/off needs to set the variable to the corresponding state).

5) A rule for auto on/off.

NOTE: It's hard to see in the pictures but the light is always on/off by the NEXA switch, not by changing the state of the virtual switch.

I have attached the rules as pictures below.

But what exactly is it that set it in auto mode?

Can you show the name of the Virtual switch so I can see how it corresponds with the rules?

And do you have other people around you that controls the lights and how do this change the lights back to auto and the other way around?

I have my wife that hates automation and only wants to control lights with switches and me that was everything to be automatic.

Yes my wife also used this, and she seems to like the functionality. What you can do with this kind of functionality is to have the lights stay on all the time or turn them off. The auto lights on functionality will always be on.

Well...the functionality I have at home differs from this, I have combined this with a time condition. I changed this before posting to make the rule easier. The rule I have at home is attached to this post.

I made a mock virtual switch so that it's easier to see. the virtual switch and the nexa wall plugg has almost the same name :-)

I have dimmer in the hallway and it does not seem to work.

The motion does not activate the light and when I push the light switch the light turns off after one second?

Now motion seem to work but not switch?

I want the off function to turn of the light and keep them of 30 seconds until next motion and I want the motion to go to latest value and if I press the light switch the light stays on to the latest value.

Guess it is more complicated with a dimmer. And after time 00:00 motion should turn on to 15% but after 00:04 automation go back to normal motion again.

OMG I removed al the rules and the motion still activates the lights.....

What to do!

My advice is to use the dimmer with a 100, 0 setting to begin with. Get the fuctionality you want with that and then continue adding one extra level of complexity. Testing after each change.

Make sure that the sync is working...use the API to check.

I'd like to figure out, how stop the rule, when motion sensor is triggered the light on and I like then it to stay on without waiting first, that the rule goes end and turn the light off.

Try using a virtual switch. You will either need an additional manual button, or input, like through the fibaro dimmer module which can have different settings activated by multiple pushes. This button, or pushes, will activate the virtual switch. Then modify your motion rule so it will only activate when the virtual switch is off and there is motion.
