NextGen Dashboard Concept

EddyZWave shared this idea 9 years ago
Under Consideration

As a UI/UX engineer and an old passionate in home automation I've developed a concept of my vision of Dashboard to apply to Zipatablet

Take a look the attach and share with me your ideas and opinions...

Not bad, really. Even if, it is a bit too "shiny" to my taste.

Love it too !!

Hope Zipato team could create us something like that :)

Or maybe that someone with appropriate skills on this forum could create and share something like a php app that could display the same thing by using the zipabox API ?

This kind of dashboard would be awesome on a tablet fixed on the wall :D

@Sebastian I'm glad you like my work...

This is a concept of my home automation dream software...

Other people have asked me how to implement an interface like this, the answer is only one: use a game engine like Unity 3D and with one development you can distribuite the software on all existent platforms (Android, iOS, Linux, Windows, Macosx)

For a software with a complex graphic like my concept... a web application is not the good idea...

I wanted to start developing this software alone time ago but the development is expensive and I would have no way to test all widgets on the market.

I hope that many users will vote positively this post... and you (Zipato team) can capture the right way to move the IoT to the next generation.

It looks great Eddy, great initiative! I would suggest only to put the most important stuff on the dashboard, for most people that would probably be some basic status info. Also I would love to see a more minimalistic visual design version. I am an cognitive ergonomics expert, and have done a lot of user testing on UIs. The less non-relevant information is present, the better. Your version really looks great, but because a lot visual information is presented, it is much harder for users to visually "scan" the screen. Less colors, less font-types, more contrast would make it even better.

Currently most people are unconsciously trained to look at screens using a T-pattern (this was a F pattern in the past). That means if you would track eye-movements on the screen, people have the most eye-movements in the top bar and the middel of the screen, regardless the actual content. So, dashboards should contain the most relevant information in the middle section. Difficult ...

Also you should try and ask the community what features and information they use most; 80% rule.

I'm not sure if the Zipabox API would suffice, but maybe your skills and the combined programming skills of some Zipabox enthousiasts could lead to an opensource UI initiative fostering a better interface for the web and iOS/ app (which is also not up to standards). I am happy to contribute in any way.
