No rules work

David Pritchard shared this problem 8 years ago
Known

I've tried creating several different rules and none of them ever does anything. I've tried disabling all rules except the new one, but still nothing. I remember to synchronise them. I see them appear in the control center under "My Home Rules". I've tried creating a very simple rule that executes a scene which I know works (I click "Run" in the Control Center and it does what it's supposed to). But the rule does nothing.

Any ideas.

I've tried creating the rule, synchronising, and then hard rebooting. Nothing.

My test rule is simple: When -> Scheduler (Set time to a few minutes from now) -> Run scene

good idea is to make a screenshot and post it, so we can see it and have a better chance to help

OK, here's a shot of the rule, the scheduler config and the scene. The scene just switches off a series of on/off switches (and it works when I click "Run").

I see that you are using the old UI. That's not supported, and you should use the new rule creator in the new UI.

Oh, where is that? I saw "Rules Creator" and clicked on it (https://my.zipato.com/zipato-web/Puzzle).

On the right side of the "dashboard" there is a collapsible panel like on the left side. The right one contains rules and editor.

Not that it will help you. My scheduled rules have mostly stopped working also. I was to invest in a lot of z-wave equipment. From switches, dimmers, smoke detector and house alarm. But in the 8 months or so I've had the Zipabox it's not even been able to reliably turn on and off my aquarium lights. Can't trust the thing to do more important stuff when even a simple schedule does not work.

No where on the box did it say "Warning, this is a beta product and it might not work as adverticed!". It should have that as a sticker on the box.

OK, found it. Exactly right, Pål. It didn't help at all. Still not working.

If the simplest of rules doesn't work, it's kind of useless.

To see if the problem is with the scene. Just make a virtual switch. Then make a new rule and use this switch to test. And use an email to test and a normal switch.

The scene works fine. From the left-hand side of the dashboard I can run the scene no problem.

Also I found it better to make the rule execute about 15 minutes from when you create it. Sometimes it takes a while for it to synchronize properly. Personally I, and a lot of users, haven't had too much problems with rules and schedules. If their is an issue with your particular box I recommend opening a ticket for support directly with Zipato. They can make sure everything is working properly. Log in a post your ticket here

Good luck.

I just tried scheduling the rule 20 minutes hence. No difference. Still doesn't work.

In your scheduler you did not use "repeat" this means, the rule will work only once at given time and date and never again.

i.e. a rule which should control anything choose in the planer minutes and 10 and repeat. So every ten minutes the rule will checked

The rule is just a test, meant to run once. My proper rules are set to run every day, or every weekday. None of them work.

Update for everyone on this:

I had three problems:

1) IP devices such as Sonos speakers and Nest thermostats (I have both) are not currently working properly. They cause the box to run out of memory. This was causing my box to go off line constantly and to fail to synchronise rules. It may have also prevented the Somfy blinds from working reliably. After deleting these devices, these problems stopped (R&D are working on a fix for the memory problem).

2) I failed to notice that there are *2* synchronise buttons. I notice, reading the forums, that other people have fallen into the same trap. I was always using the left-hand one. If I noticed the other at all, I assumed it did the same thing. Wrong! The right-hand button synchs rules, the left-hand one doesn't. In my view, this is a design mistake and should be changed.

3) In my tests, at least, I've found that the Zipabox doesn't apply new rules or rule changes unless you reboot.

So that's it: no IP devices for now, use both synch buttons and reboot. With that my rules are working reliably.

If you want to know if the sync is working...use the API! Because then you see the feedback from the server/controller.

I haven't played with the API at all, but I'll take a look at it. In any case, I think you'll agree the two synch buttons are confusing.

Hello David,

the problem with the IP devices (Sonos, HUE), is known. I have a ticket open and Zipato will inform if the problem will be solved.

Known to those who have a ticket open. Not to the rest of the people on this forum! This sort of information needs to be publicised.
