I don't have any 1st generation device, but I can confirm all my 2nd generation can be added to the zipabox.

Hi,

I mean the bridge itself, as there are 2 versions. Don't want to end up buying the 2nd version, and then to find out it can't be added.

Thanks.

I just bought a Hue kit consisting of a bridge and two white bulbs. How do I know if it's gen 1 or gen 2 ?

Robert,

If your bridge is rounded then it's a first generation bridge, if its squared then is the second generation. Take a look at this;

Alberto, Thanks for the link.

I have 2nd gen.

I am a bit puzzled though: When controlling the lamps via the Hue app or via Apple HomeKit

, I have full control. When controlling via Zipabox, I couldn't get it completely off; even at 0% it is still a weak light...

I've had that issue, not always. I'm going to make a test and let you know.

Robert,

I think this is another issue. Looks like in order to completely turn OFF the phillips hue lights we have to send the OFF command regardless of the intensity / brightness of the bulb. If we only sent intensity to 0, the hue bulb does not turn off completely, you can actually test this while looking at your hue app and changing intensity from zipato web control center, it responds to changes but when you set the intesity to 0 the bulb does not turn off completely. If you click on the bulb icon (toggle) the bulb will turn off, this same behaviour is observed while using rules. I think I'm going to open a ticket for this since it affects scene control (no way to completely turn OFF hue lights from scenes)

Hi Alberto and Robert, made some clip for you: https://youtu.be/97z4RJyj5IA

But i think it is a test thing if you want the slider to turn of the lights completely!

Philips Hue app solution is very good. Hope it will be like that in the new app and the web interface!

Hey Jacob,

Thanks for the video, this is a good workaround to make scenes work, that way you can add both to set ON/OFF and color/brightness. I agree with you, Zipato still has some work to do regarding Hue Lights (and other devices). I haven't enabled the visibility for the ON/OFF endpoint of my lights but I noticed that on the rules you can also send ON/OFF commands using ACTION puzzle like in my attached example, I did a few tests using only brightness and indeed the bulbs did not turned totally OFF while setting it to 0% (both physically and in the hue app) that's when I decided to give it a try with ON/OFF commands and it worked (it actually turns back ON using the previous setting, which could be nice). It is confusing though since this is not enabled by default and zwave bulbs do not work that way (unfortunately they do not provide the amount of lumens and colors.
