Problem saving custom configuration parameter

I'm trying to set COMMAND_CLASS_PROTECTION on my Danfoss thermostat to enable child protection, by setting parameter 117 to value 2 under "custom configuration" on the configuration tab in the device manager. But when I click save my changes are lost. Am I doing it wrong or is this feature not supported?

The custom configuration field is used to set device configuration parameters with the CONFIGURATION command class. We do not currently support the PROTECTION command class.
