Running a rule from pressing a light switch

Under Consideration

Is there a simple way to know when a switch is pressed? It seems that rules only allow for sensor related events to trigger rules, there is nothing for actuators or generic on/off device events, is this correct? There are references to a "Control" sensor block in old literature but this seems to have been removed. I would like to run a rule when a light switch is operated.

What kind of switch/module are you using?

I don't know this device but it could be that it's not fully supported or that it's not visible in the device manager (make sure there's a dot behind the righ end point).

Some of my switches don't seem to be fully supported as the show a question mark in the device blocks. I do however have a different switch that seems to be ok, the question is do I trigger the rule when a sensor changes state, when it is not really a sensor?

Yes, the switch is both an actuator and a sensor in terms of rule creating. When the switch is turned on, the sensor puzzle is on. I have tested a few Vitrum light switches and found them to work fine. The dimmers had some problems but the on/off worked well.

Remember to just experiment with the rules. Its surprising what else you may discover.
