Starting question: Where to place the system

Simon Hofstra shared this idea 8 years ago
Under Consideration

I want to make a decision of what system to buy, but with the Zipato system it's not clear where to place the components. Visible? On the wall? Inside the cupboard?

There is no information of where to start.

Can someone give me an answer?

The zipabox and the zipatile are the same thing: Does that mean that I only need a zipatile to connect to all automated elements? (I want to connect: CoCo devices, Sonos, Somfy RTS, 433 Mhz stations)

With the zipato box I need extra elements to connect them, is that build in in the zipatile?

How much space do I need around the box to have enough airflow?

I need 230V and ... ?

So I should go for a zipabox for the connectionto 433MHz/zigbee/zwave.

I can install the system in a rack (19") next to the power and switches.

What is the reach of the wireless signals? Because the signal should travel through 1 or 2 walls.

Or is there a possibility to connect external antennas?

But that is not true for 433Mhz, so place the Zipabox in a Central location so that you get the most coverage for your 433Mhz signals if you are using that module.

So for a complete system i need the zipabox including power supply, antenna and ethernet cable.

What extention boxes are recommended? (for Sonos, Somfy RTS and CoCo ?)

When is an extra power unit needed?

Ok, thanks.

I will find a supplier for me.

Simon,

The advice is to *NOT* place the Zipabox inside a breaker cabinet if it is made of metal: Your system is dependent on the best possible radio coverage/range for your house/office/whatever, and anything blocking the antenna will cause less reception sensitivity for your low powered sensors and less transmit range. Although some technologies (Z-wave etc) employ mesh technology, where data is retransmitted, it is still good practice to plan the placement of the system carefully, not to run into problems later.

Thanks for the information.

Sonos needs an ethernet connection (on zipabox).

Somfy RTS needs the 433 MHz expantion unit.

CoCo devices also uses the 433 MHz expantion unit.

So it will be: A zipabox with 433 MHz expantion unit.

I will place it on the wall (it's beautiful enough) in sight, in the center of the house.

Close to a 230V connection and with an ethernet cable directly into the main switch.

No more than 9 meters in ether direction to the devices.

Simon

Jacques,

There is a back plate which de-attaches from the tile, which you Fox to the wall using tape or screws. The cable goes up or down. The entire thing builds abt 1 cm

Hi,

At the back of the system, there are 2 places for screw-heads, 35mm apart. You can use flat headed screws to mount it on the wall. I have used a din (normalised) rail, 35mm wide, 120 mm long and mounted the system on this rail, on the wall. I drilled a 25 mm hole, just a few centimeters above for the power cable and the network cable. The system has a few hooks on the backside and "clicks" on the rail.

It hangs about 2,3 meters high.

I have some pictures, I will post them later.

It is fixed in a box, so my opinion: Go ahead.

At least you can reach the reset button easier ...
