Stupid question: what are virtual thermostats for?

I control my thermostat devices directly with rules. What are virtual thermostats and why would I use them?

It is a nice software component that lets you define named temperature presets (like Comfort, night, away and more) and put those presets into a schedule. You can define multiple inputs (temp sensors) and chose if the thermostat should use latest reported temp or average temp as trigger. Likewise you can define what actuators to use for heating and cooling.

I really like It, and It is easy to override if I am working from home one day and dont want the temp to drop.

It also has support for vacation.

Im using the virtual thermostat pro, im not sure how the non-pro version works.

OK. It sounds good, but I just use the thermostat's own schedule and override it with rules when needed. That works well enough for me.

Hi Marius,

There are some things that i didn't understand about the options. For example, when you talk about inputs, are you talking about the thermometers inputs? In that case, what are the Heating and Cooling inputs for?

What are the cooling/heating outputs for, for example, the IR extender?

How can i use the humidity options for?

And the ventilation inputs?

Im using a pro thermostat also.

Kind Regards
