Thermostat defaulting to off?

Hi,

I've been using virtual thermostat with a Horstman HRT4-ZW wall thermostat and boiler receiver for a number of years now. However, recently I changed my settings on the advice of this forum. Previously I had the wall thermostat paired directly with the receiver, and the wall thermostat as both the input and output of the virtual thermostat. The virtual thermostat would control the wall thermostat which in turn would switch the boiler receiver as appropriate (i.e. the virtual thermostat would change the set point of the wall thermostat, which would in turn control the boiler).

I have changed it so that the wall thermostat and the boiler receiver are no longer paired directly, instead the boiler receiver is one of the outputs of the virtual thermostat. The reason for doing this is that I wanted to have the facility that if you changed the set point on the wall thermostat directly, the programme of the virtual thermostat would be changed to whatever was set on the wall thermostat and the 'hold period' function would be used on the virtual thermostat. The only downside of this is that the TPI function of the thermostat is not utilised.

However, I have a problem in that when a 'heating' period ends, the virtual thermostat doesn't default to 'auto' mode - instead it goes to 'off'. This means the heating doesn't come on as scheduled in the programme and instead remains off until I manually go into the control panel and change the mode to 'auto' or 'heating'.

I've attached two pictures. One shows the 'off' mode I'm referring to and the other the settings of the devices.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Dave

Try to remove the wall thermostat from the output. That is the only thing I can think of.

The boiler receiver required a signal every 50 minutes otherwise it goes to safe mode and potentially turns off.

You can also try to keep the existing setup and despite your setup link the thermostat with the receiver directly.

If no good, raise a ticket.

When output of the wall thermostat go off, is turn off virtual thermostat.

Remove the wall thermostat from input.

Well, it does not make sense to remove from input because then you cannot change the temperature manually on the thermostat.

Sorry. I think about input in output field.

I had the same problem. Fixed by making a rule:if of turn on to auto.

RULE workaround suppose to be replaced by permanent fix "SOON"

Thanks guys! The rule is a good idea and works well.

I have also removed the wall thermostat as an output which doesn't seems to affect it's behaviour in receiving set-points from the controller. I think the main difference is it only receives them when it 'wakes-up' rather than them being sent to the thermostat instantly. However, this didn't solve the problem of it defaulting to off - I used the rule above suggested by Stefan to solve that problem.
