Virtual temperature sensor

Need Answer

Hi,

I want Zipabox to get the local outside temperature from Internet, and display it just as if I had a temp sensor outside the house.

I followed the tutorial to add a virtual temp sensor: https://community.zipato.com/knowledge-base/article/virtual-thermometer-adding. In the end it explains how to type the temp in the URL, but I want the temp fetched automatically from somewhere, not typed by me.

Please advise if I am missing something.

Best Regards

Peter

You need to write a script and this script will need to run every xx minutes by a cron job, this script will do the necessary and post your temp in the url.

I have wrote this kind of script to paste my netatmo data into zipato.

Thanks Sylvain, that sounds exactly what I need. Can it be done by the Zipabox or does it require a standalone computer running cron?

Ideally I was hoping to replace the hard coded temperature in the link with something like "http://www.weatherservice.com/localtemps/yourcity". No fuzz, just extract the data from somewhere.

Just use the weather station in de Zipabox lot eassier.

Hi Peter,

This can't be done by the zipabox, I have a nas from synology and doing it on this nas. Anything can be used raspberry, stand alone computer. Something which can run a web server.

Weather station in Zipabox > refresh time is over two hours, therefore, it is useless ...

After two months, still no change ...

Thanks for all the input, I really appreciate it! The options at hand though are not mind blowing for an easy task like accurate temperature:

1. Set up a separate unit to run a script. It's beyond my comfort zone as a medium skilled user.

2. Accept random update intervals, up to 2h delay, in the weather station.

3. Buy a temperature sensor and put outside the house.

I'll reluctantly go forward with option 3.

Zipato, please develop a good solution to the problem. Basic and updated input data like temp, local time incl. DST, should be easily available to all users to make the system comprehendable for people with tech interest but no hacking background.

Best Regards,

Peter

Can this not be done with IFTTT integration?
