Zipatile OTA Update
Completed
Hi,
Yesterday there was an OTA update for Zipatile (Android 5.0.2).
Sadly not a success for me:
- Most widgets are gone, even the watch on the home-screen is gone and can't be restored.
- I had a screen panel with widgets to switch various lights > gone and widgets are no more available for light and switches
- Scenes in Zipatile APP > don't find it anymore?
Is it only me? Or does someone else has it as well?

Please take our apology for the inconvenience. We have upgraded Zipato app in order to enable option for adding widgets inside the Zipato launcher. However, this has caused the loss of Zipato widgets from the old launcher which is not supported any more.
The best option to solve this issue is to use Zipato launcher (go to Android settings > Home > select "Zipato"), and add various Zipato widgets on the Home page.

Dear Sebastian,
As a general understanding for almost everyone, a widget seems to be a visual object, intuitive, fast to use and a little bit customizable (size, position, etc).
Zipato widgets screen right now is a rigid structure user interface with basically 'text and text'(even clickable items are only text) with many device information accesible... but not needed for daily use when I just want to connect air conditioner or turn off/on a concrete light.
In my modest opinion the usability is questionable and until now, android home screen widgets even limited were the patch.

I agree with previous commenters, the default screen must be simple and easily understandable. You don't need all that information for everyday use. Only the most frequently used functions should be there.
I did a lot of different automation projects in the past, office buildings, shopping centers, hotels, luxury smart homes. Each type demands different approach, but they have one thing in common - the everyday user interface must be clean and simple, with only the essential information displayed. All other information is hidden away, and accessible by user if he needs it.
If I have a room equipped with A/C, lights and blinds, I need easy access to the thermostat, light switch/dimmer and blinds control. And I want them visible all the time. Keep it simple is the basic rule here. The user doesn't need to see all the underlying information in everyday use.
Sebastian,
Why don't you make a quick survey. Setup some tiles with the two different user interfaces and give it to different people for testing (just make sure that the majority are not techies). Listen to they'r reactions while using the simple UI and the full blown Zipato UI.
Just pick random people from the street, there is plenty of moving in your area.
Attached is what I consider an everyday interface.

Completely agree with the last 3 comments! This could be also done on the mobile apps via user configuration: each user could choose what to see. There were already similar suggestions on the forum

Hi.
At least surprise:
About policies:
Has Zipato asked me/us to granted a OTA updated removing this feature? (Not me)
Has zipato published previously the news features/bug fixed/removed features/features not supported after this update contains in this release update? I could not find it.
About launcher:
Has Zipato released a new launcher replacing launcher3 to improved low flexibility by home screen? Few months ago, Zipato said it's near to finish a new launcher.
Has Zipato thought how has this (and others) update affected to end user? (No IT o experts)
Best regards.
Paco

First of all, I would like to apologise again for any possible inconvenience which some of you may had due to our recent launcher upgrade. Regarding the design, I will try to explain our actions and clarify our standpoint in this topic.
Design is probably the most challenging topic in the world of home automation. There are so many different types of homes, installations and user preferences which make it impossible to make everyone happy. However, there is always room for improvement when it comes to customization options on home page.
First we started with the Launcher 3 as the official launcher on Zipatile. The main idea was to integrate some basic (but most important) home automation functionality of Zipatile through android widgets of Zipato app, which would allow users to use Zipatile's home page for their everyday actions (call scene, set the temperature, arm/disarm, switching room lights...). Still, they would have ability to combine widgets from other android apps which they may have installed on Zipatile. But the biggest problem which we had, was the android concept of widgets. They are updating very slow and for example, when users were arming the system with keyfob, system was immediately armed, but home widgets was still showing "Disarmed" for quite some time. This was not acceptable for Zipatile as a home security system as one if it's primary functions.
So we have decided to make Zipatile app to be the official launcher of Zipatile. This gave us a possibility to updated device statues immediately and provide more seamless integration of all different Zipatile functions (security alarm, thermostat, automation hub, intercom...). And for integration with eventual 3rd party apps which may be installed on Zipatile, we decided to use android widgets within Zipato app. This way Zipato app has become the official Zipatile launcher app.
One issue which we had is that Zipato app has it's own android widgets built in, and it would be quite messy if some users would decide to use these widgets inside the Zipato app itself. So we have decided to remove them from within Zipato app (only from Zipatile version, not from the android mobile one). However, this means that these widgets will no longer be available for these users which are still using an old Launcher 3 as their Zipatile launcher neither. And this is the reason why some of you have lost their home screen widgets.
We are now looking for an option to bring back all these Zipato app android widgets and only disallow users to add them into the Zipato app itself, but we still don't have the proper solution for that. So this is in progress....
Anyway, I recommend you to use Zipato launcher with Zipatile as we are constantly working on improvements now. Look and feel will be better from day to day, as this is our main goal. Already now, customization options are quite good, and these are ITEMS which you can add on your home screen:
Launcher buttons based on
Furthermore, since all buttons are aligned on the left side of the screen, on the right side, you can add some android widgets from other 3rd party apps which are installed on your Zipatile.
Together with an option to customize the background wallpaper, I think this could be a solid solution for most of users.
Of course, we will still have to improve the way how we show android widgets from other 3rd party apps, since this is a complex area, but we have to primarily take care of Zipatile's major functions related to home security and automation.
Anyway, although we don't recommend it, there is a still an option of installing the alternative launcher app and use it on Zipatile.
Hopefully I made some options more clear here, as I think it is actually possible to configure the screen in the way as suggested by @Zoltan T., @Robert Wiklund and @Pedro

First off all, Thanks Sebastian to be aware of customer concerns.
Also I agree with you... Is imposible to have everybody happy with a user interface.
The problem anyway is that you're talking about "Launcher upgrade" and frankly speaking what we can see after upgrade is a "Launcher remove" and an update in the Zipatile device management.
To be constructive from my side. Maybe just adding the possibility to add different device action widgets this issue can be solved.
For example in case of simple lights. Current 'widget' is chaos if you want just a fast function usage.
Reduce the size to half (we will have space for two device columns by the way) and include just device name and a lamp icon showing on or off status and allow to toggle status just touching the icon.
Maybe it's just what the people want as a real 'launcher'.
Of course keep you design style... but... taking the opportunity... please add a "white skin" as you showed in commercials from the beginning. Android native color inversion is not an option... did you try it? :-)
Regards.

For my part, as I see that there is a mistake with my widgets, I restart my Zipatile and....
It was totaly down...
My Zypatile is freezing at the android Logo.
So everything is down.
I request help from the support...
I am sure that at the end, it will restart to work, but it's difficult to explain to my familly that they need to wait 4 or five days (in best case) before opening the roller...
