Zipatile "rooted" Android firmware without zipato add-ons

Martin Schwarz shared this question 7 years ago
Need Answer

I want to use the Zipatile as a wall Mount Display for my already running home Automation Software IP-Symcon.

During pre-order I asked the Zipato Support if I can install "other" Software which was guaranteed.

As I had Problems with installing Google Play the Support also gave me the Suggestion to install a "rooted" Android Firmware for the Zipato without the preinstalled Zipato apps. This was on the end of April, since then I didn't hear any more about the next steps (how to get the Image and install it).

Did someone already have the same Problem and achieved to do this Installation?

Best regards,

Martin

I just want to be able to install google play services to add tasker and other automated/customized apps...

im fully aware of apkmirror and aptoide. any app that requires google play services as a dependency wont install.

I also tried several versions of the Google Play Services but None of them is working. After a few seconds there is a dialogue saying "Google Play Services has been stopped ("Google Play-Dienste" wurde beendet") - and the Play Store doesn't run.

So, which Version is really running?

i have a feeling they stripped the strings of code out of the OS that allow google play services to talk to google. hence causing it to crash..

yes I do not think they want anyone messing with and hence slowing the system down.

I too thought the Zipatile was coming with a open android platform and was looking forward to the possibilities. But I can understand also why they have taken this approach, as their is only 8G rom. I also was hoping for a sd expansion slot and/or 3g sim backup. Maybe in future versions. When i get a chance ill look into getting play store on there if possible. I think we will need to install gapps through recovery mode with the MD5 checksum disabled or ignored.

Adrian, there is an SD slot on the top of the zipatile. It takes microSD cards up to 32GB. But you must avoid UHS class cards (they also have on the labec an "I" sign as they wont work. I had one 65gb and I wan inable to update the firmware. After I purchased a 16Gb version without this class speed (it is only class 4) and no problems at install.

i researched your option of flashing Gapps from recovery mode and discovered that Only Android devices that are licensed by the "Open Handset Alliance' contain the so called Google Apps. Usually people associate apps like Google Maps, Google Play Store, etc. with Android, but because of the open-source nature of Android, manufacturers can sell Android devices without Google Apps and therefore avoid to pay the license fee. I found this website that helps to side load Gapps through a custom recovery.

Gapps are located here. http://opengapps.org/ and the instructions are here. https://senk9.wordpress.com/2010/12/03/how-to-install-google-apps-gapps-on-your-android-device-phone/

being this tablet uses android AOSP version. it doesn't have Google apps. so it doesn't need to be rooted nor unlocked. it just needs to have the google apps flashed in recovery mode. im trying to find out the brand of android tablet they use for the zipatile. once i found that out. i can get the correct version of TWRP recovery, to be able to flash Gapps on in.

hi there, did you have any luck to get correct TWRP for Zipatile?

i have found out that the zipatile is based on cyanogenmod 12 lollipop as this is a rom that already comes rooted, you just need to access the developer settings by turning on the debugging settings to get into recovery mode, to install TWRP. im having difficulty figuring out the exact brand of table they used... this can be done by looking at the board ID by disassembling the zipatile or through sideloading a few different apk's to figure out the hardware id. as i dont have the time right now to do that.. if someone can find that out, i can start looking online for the correct TWRP version. usually apps like; hardware info, CPU-Z, CPU-X all found on the app store can help to identify it.

Hi,

Somebody have found something more?

I couldnt find a root tool for it.. whats funny is, in their latest video posted on youtube, they posted on how to install third party apps, it showed apps that "require" Super user access to to edit system files. so they locked it for the end user.. ive complained about this to them in many help tickets, but as with OTA updates, it can wreak havoc with compatibility issues or even brick the zipatile if you dont know what your doing..

they hinted that they might allow for root soon, for apps that require google services to run and to also be able to use google voice for running tasker scripts..

Well, what applications you want to use that are gapps dependant? I would not dare to install any google on zipatile as it is not the fastest hardware out there (obviously for 350 how can you expect to have a metal frame, snapdragon 820, ....tablet with all the functions) and google is eating a lot of energy and storage.

Tasker is running on zipatile no problem. so is skype and doorbird (apparently).

I haven't tried tasker, as I thought I would need google services to verify it. I suppose I could find a cracked version. Cant comment on skype, but Doorbird works as an intercom service, but notifications are not received by the Zipatile, because notifications are dependant on Google Cloud services. This makes the Doorbird app almost useless.

I wish someone could figure out how to use the Doorbird api for Notifications and use it to trigger a virtual sensor on the Zipatile. This would allow you then to use the inbuilt siren(doorbell) instead. I can not get it to work, and if it could be worked out to trigger the sensor over local ip, even better.

Anyone work this out and i'll you a beer or 10.

"FINALLY" GOT GOOGLE SERVICES INSTALLED ON THE ZIPATILE!!!!

Steps: put these apks and files on an SD card to add to zipatile

1. root your zipatile with kingroot apk.

2. replace the installed kingroot supersu with SuperSU v2.78 SR1.

https://download.chainfire.eu/1003/SuperSU/SR1-SuperSU-v2.78-SR1-20160915123031.zip

3.download SU-hide (this makes sure you still get OTA updates from zipato after editing system files.

4. Download the pro version of Flashfire from the app store and use ES backup explorer to create a backup of the app, then browse to the backup apps folder in your android and cut move it to the SD card.

5. then to go to open Gapps project and select Platform: "ARM" Android: 5.0 then select the variant http://opengapps.org/

ALL THESE APPS NEED TO BE ON THE SD CARD THAT YOU INSERT INTO THE ZIPATILE. go down the line and install each one.

6. once Flashfire is installed on your zipatile, open it and hit the red circle with the plus sign. select flash zip. a new screen will open and select the two boxes and tap FLASH, sit and and let the magic happen!!!
