help with multi zone heating.

Need Answer

Hello guys, hoping you could give me some advice.

Just ordered my zipatile from vesternet and I am about to order some z wave modules.

I would like to control a five zone heating manifold with the system and as far as I can work out this should work:

1, Zipatile as main lounge thermostat

2, A fibaro Universal binary sensor with 4 x 1-wire temperature sensors each located in an empty thermostat enclosure in each of the other 4 zones.

3, Set up the 4 x 1-wire sensors to work as virtual thermostats.

4, Use 5 z wave relays to activate the valves on the manifold.

That way I think that the thermostat on the zipatile will call for heat in the main room and the other four virtual thermostats will call for heat in the other 4 zones using the 1-wire sensors as thermostats with each zone/thermostat activating its relative relay on the valves.

Does that sound like a sensible idea?

Any other ideas and advice would be appreciated.

Many Thanks

Glen

I've same set up but with 3 zones and it works as a sharm. Go for it.

It is ok. Will need to activate pro license though.

Sounds like a good idea, just make sure the Z-wave relays can handle the current required by the valves.

Hi, I am in process of planning a new house, I am thinking to have 7 to 8 zones, I would really appreciate if you can guide me to design the multi zone HVAC system,

I would like to know

1- Type of dampers I need

2- Wiring details for both high and low voltage

3- Type / brand of temperature sensors

4- How to use binary sensor

5- how to connect all these sensors to Zipatile

6- Can we control that many sensors /zone by Zipatile

Thanks,

Norm

A HVAC system is different to the multiroom heating and ventilation systems mentioned here. What type and brand is the HVAC?

For this I would email support and ask them for a recommendation. Perhaps CoolmasterNet if they can integrate it properly would be better. Or if it already has http or api available maybe via this. The other issue with HVAC control is the Virtual Thermostat also doesn't allow fan speed control.

It does not matter how many zones you want. For each zone you need to set up a virtual thermostat. You need to remember that with Smart license, you can only use a thermostatic device as endpoints (and even a boiler actuator like secure SSR303 is not a thermostatic device). best is to use Heatit or MCO thermostats for temperature meter, heating input and heating output.

If you want to use actuators, you will need to purchase 1time PRO license. Even if you do, and add actuators it will be cheaper than Heatit or MCO for 7-8 zones, it just will not be so nice.

As Adrian just wrote, I made a mistake. MCO has Fan Coil thermostats (2 and 4 pive versions) as well. Im just simply unsure if they are fully supported as did not need to try it yet.

I will have force air heating system, I don't get why I need thermostats for each zone, I think I can use temperature sensor as virtual thermostat and control all my motorized dampers by creating some rules in Zipatile?

I would like to understand how to connect the motorized damper with Z wave enable relay/switch and how to wire 7-8 temperature sensors so all can talk to Zipatile.

Thanks,

I can integrate this with Zipatile?
