How to access Zipabox ?

Need Answer

I have to say that i'm a bit confused about the solutions available to access the box.

Do i have to have all the time an internet connection up and running, or is it possible to connect to the box (to control my lights, heating systems, ...) with a normal network connection, using either a pc or an ipad ?

I don't want to use internet to connect to something which is installed 2 meters away from my pc ... but reading the different articles and forum about Zipabox, it's not clear for me if i can do it with a normal network connection. I saw on the web site that i can use a tablette, but it's not explained how it will connected to the box....

Could you clarify that for me ? thanks

Hi Kristian,

That's the point which is not clear for me. How can you do everything w/o internet ? As far as i understand i can only access the box through either zipato web site, or iPhone/iPad application, which require an internet connection. So i guess i missed something :-)

You are right about the mobile app, but during the March we will release the new version of the mobile APP which will allows you to connect locally to your Zipabox.

Anyway, what Kristian is trying to explain, is that you can always use your regular switches to run some scenes if you have micromodules behind them. You can use alarm system as communication between the box and the sensors is independand and you can also arm and disarm you system by using keyfob or some light switch (by using the rule). Also, thermostat is working as you are most probably running some week scheduler which controls the heating and cooling. So box does everything offline, only GUI is currently online and soon mobile one will be local as I said.

Thanks for your answer Sebastian. I will then wait until March to get the local mobile version. I know i can always use my regular switches to control everything, but what i would like to do is to have my iPad on the wall in the main room, and using it to control lots of my equipment (Audio, Heating system, lights, ...) but with a local network connection. Do you plan also in the future to open your box with an API that could be used by tools like HS Design (HomeSeer) and others ?

Currently no, but you can always use http requests which are available within a rule creator. We will also, improve them very soon to allow "two-way" communication.
