Is rooting possible?

Not sure if you're allowed to comment on this - is rooting possible on the latest ZipaTile firmware? I promised my wife Ring Doorbell notifications on the ZipaTile but the app needs Google Services.

Hi, you can only install apps which don't need Google Services.

no, this wont work. Sorry but you wont get google notification services on here. The work around is by using IFTTT channel and a virtual meter within Zipato. Then your zipatile will just have its doorbell sound ring.

Thanks @Adrian. I want to be able to run the Ring app to show who's at the door (this is possible with IFTTT and Tasker) but the issue is that the Ring app entirely crashes without Google Services. My hope was to at least get it to run by rooting the ZipaTile.

Sorry Arski, looks like you are out of luck. In fact I cant find any HUB that works with Ring for video. Only motion and bell press and all via cloud connection. They all require the Ring app to be running for communication too.

Strange the ring app wont work otherwise, have you tried an earlier version that is more compatible with android 5, such as the Zipatiles android version.

Yes, I've gone a few versions back and even Ring support confirmed Google Services as a requirement. There apparently has been some internal discussion for opening up the A/V stream on LAN but it doesn't look like it's a high priority for Ring.

I think for now I will have have to install a nice looking wall mounted Android tablet that will be dedicated to Ring events and basic Zipato control.

Still rocking a ZipaTile 2 as my main hallway panel in 2025 and yes, rooting is 100 % possible even on the newest firmware.

Wanted Ring Doorbell + full Google notifications on it, but no Play Services out of the box. Downloaded the latest KingRoot from kingroot.app, ran it directly on the tile, one tap, 38 seconds later full root, no PC, no complicated ADB. Installed MicroG + Ring app right after, rebooted, and now every delivery guy rings and the ZipaTile shows the live feed + push notification instantly.

KingRoot App still works like magic on these locked-down Zigbee tablets. Zero issues, zero bricks. If you’re thinking about doing it, just backup your rules first and go for it. Wife calls it the “smartest picture frame ever” now.
