Lack of manual

I really like the Zipabox, but I am sorry to say that I am quite disappointed with that Zipato does not seem to have any manual or help for the rule creator. The FAQ's are effectively non-existing and worthless. I understand that it is difficult to write a manual for a programming language, but the total lack of help information is really worrying.

I myself have managed to make the rules necessary for me to test the operation of the sensors, but I cannot find any information about the concepts of Partition, Groups and Scenes and how to group sensors in different rooms together. I have neither been able to create an "Arm" button to enable me to switch the alarm on and off from app or web. This is stuff that most users need to understand in order to have any real use of the Zipato controller.

I do believe in community help and cooperation, but I think that the lack of even the most basic help and manuals are damaging to the Zipato product and puts to much of a burden on the Zipato users and supporters.

I think you should seriously look into this and get the FAQ's and help notes in place immediately.

yours,

Roar

I agree with you. Zipato is working on these things but it going very slow.

The development of the box goes first and then faqs/help/documentation. I'm saying this is right way. They should do both.

If you want to arm/disarm your alarm with 1 click and without the use off the alarm panel/pin code.

You must turn on the quick arm in the alarm panel.

Then make a virutal switch >> alarm

Then make a rule (somthing like this):

When virutal switch Alarm = On

Action Alarm= arm

els

Action Alarm=Disarm

Note: this way is less safe!

Thanks for the answer HeroS.

I think though that the Zipato officials should give us an answer about the time frame when anything useful regarding documentation can be expected.

In your answer to me you say that I should make a virtual switch. Due to the lack of a manual I do not know how to make a virtual switch. :-)

You are not going to get a official answer...and zipato is not going to give you a deadline.

If you want to make a virtual switch:

- Click on add device

- Scroll down to virtual switch

- Click on Join

- Give it a name

- Click on Save

and then you have a new switch.

Thanks again HeroS. Now I may be able to proceed with my testing.

Why not use a Wiki. I think a manual, Wiki or

something else could put Zipabox in lead over other brands. The

lack of documentation seems to be a problem in the Z-Wave community.

Hey guys you're a commercial company, not an open source project !

A commercial company has to provide user's manual with the goods it sells. No question !

I'm fine with a wiki as long as all the articles are originally written by the vendor. With me it's fine if the community fixes errors or adds information.

Don't ever have an internet failure! An offline wiki is of no help... a pdf is !
