I have seen a guide somewhere for Nest. You will need to provide the nest app to zipato at the adding stage. Select add new device, select Nest and there you will need to insert some key app and there is also a link for it to Nest server...

Nest connection is poor.... reaction time is slow and i cant set the setpoint.

Not currently working. They have to do a bit of a rewrite to get it up and running, I was told.

I am considering adding NEST in my home. It is working now ?

We have integrated nest to zipato but still need to test. So far no issues at all. Furthermore it seems that the away mode is another device that perhaps can be used to call out automatic actions depending on the nest state.

This seems to be very interesting if true. Would solve some easy issues with home/away based actions...

I tested the Nest feature and the home/away which is working fine on the Nest app does not update correctely in the Zipaox

Nevertheless I have the same issue with IFTT : I created a rule base on the home/away trigger but found that IFFT does not receive the correct information from Nest

I basically gave up on IFTTT a long time ago. I continually got errors in my rules and Nest hardly ever worked.

I don't know what the latest is on Nest support. I know that Nest integration is working quite reliably in terms of reading temperature and humidity from the devices, but the last I heard you couldn't actually set anything from the Zipabox. Has that changed? And is there now more information available apart from Temperature and Humidity?

I agree that having the Away state info would be quite handy.

As I said, we are testing it, but so far it seems that every device is there as it should. Temperature, humidity, termostat setpoint and others. Just need enough time to evaluate. But I know for a fact that zipato has finished the redesigned compatibility and it was released.

And can you set the setpoint from the Zipabox?

Do I need to delete the Nests and add them again to see the setpoint?

Hi david, I guess it will not make it any bad if you remove and re-add the nest. Surely you should be able to set the setpoint, it would not make sense not to.

You will need to add it as heating input and also as output as you can imagine. Then nest should be like any other thermostat that allows manual change as well.

Zipato and everything else that communicates with nest, communicates via cloud, there is no possiblity to have local communication (nest limitation).

Attila: but surely you can get the auto away status from the Nest via the cloud?

Hello David,

I agree with you about the poor reliability of IFTTT

My point was more to hilight that the auto away feature in Nest is not working in IFTTT (never trigger when Nest is set to away, not even once) or in Zipabox which doesn't seem to use that information.

The auto away in Nest is a great feature since you can add as many family member as needed to trigger auto away (at least those who have a smartphone). So when the last smartphone leaves the house Nest is set to away and when the first smartphone arrives in the house Nest is set to home.

I found the auto away feature in Nest to work reliably since there seems to not only use geofencing (Nest say they use other parameters but don't give much details).

Currently I use the Locative app for geofencing which can send http requests but it seems not fully reliable, at least not enough for my expectations (basically the same level of reliability than IFTTT)

Cheers

Attila posted a while ago about a method using Tasker on his smartphone to check for his wifi signal. If it's found, it updates a virtual device in the Zipabox with the "home" state. If not found, it sends "away". I use this now with the Automate app, and it's pretty reliable. It can be tricky to get it working reliably, though. One thing that went wrong for me was that my phone was set in energy saving mode, which turned off the wifi when the screen was off. That meant that the phone would almost never detect the wifi signal.

Thanks David

I found it : https://community.zipato.com/topic/tasker-examples

Sounds great but I'm under iOS and Tasker is not available in the App Store

Kind Regards

The Tasker approach is not reliable enough. Perhaps it might be because of my phone and the home wifi router but it did disconnect sometimes. The zipato side is reliable enough so definitely the problem is on the other hand.

yes with tasker i had to add wait commands to retest the connection after 5 minutes then again at 10, just to be sure. Sometimes, for reasons unbeknownst to me, it disconnects. I am wondering if anyone has tried the Smarthings Presence tag with zipabox, and if it works?

Alternatively you can always create a "Home" sensor that updates according to motion detected inside you home. I use this in combination with a tasker wifi detector to trigger home and away status

If I will have time, I will try Robert Hercz suggestion by using application Life360. Apparently it is reliable (more than IFTTT or Tasker).
