Print

Frank Weijnen shared this idea 8 years ago
Under Consideration

I would like to be able to print (all) my installed (virtual and reel) modules with their settings. I also want to print all my rules, even the disabled ones, with the schedule and e-mail settings.

Preferable graphically but text would also suffice.

Cheers,

Frank.

try the api. You can request(get) the details of an endpoint/rules etc this way.

Hi Adrian,

I think that the "print" functionality is a basic necessity of a program. I also think that accessing the API is not for the average user (you can do more harm than good).

In my opinion, the "print" option is pretty easy (and fast) to accomplish. So why not add it to make the Web control center even better.

IMO this should be a generic feature in the Rule Editor: There should be a "Print for backup/documentation" possibility, where one could mark All or individual rules for printing.

I am not sure how you expect to print a visual copy of the rules via the control center. A api version is easily printed, otherwise do as I do and drag as many rules as you can onto a page and do a screen shot. Then back this up to a cloud storage.

It could be printed in the same way it's represented on the screen but with added information like the scheduler settings.

At the moment I make a screenshot rule by rule and place in a word document but some rules are to long for my screen and I am missing some information like the scheduler settings.

Frank,

Imagine you're a professional installer or consultant assisting your customers in setting up their smart homes. Your customers would require documentation and you would want to give it to them. Or - in my case - wanting to utilize the Zipastuff professionally in office, datacenters and telecoms installations in addition to homes. Having to print screens and pasting into a word document isn't very productive and it will definitively cause information to get lost once soneone else will start messing about (or whenever I make a quick change/fix without updating the word doc.

IMO a good print function is a necessity.

I agree fully and it's exactly what I want too, but at the moment that's all I have.

I hope Zipato will add a decent printing functionality very soon.

Adrian,

I would like to see the Print routine produce a stack of documents, where the first page contains details on the controller (serial number, firmware etc), followed by a list of devices and their respective descriptors and attributes.

This, in turn, should be followed by a list of Rules with their description and last change date.

The following pages should each contain an image of one rule as presented in the Rule Designer, followed by a list of variables used and devices/sensors utilized, as well as the contents of any communication type command used.

The purpose is to be able to fully document the system at hand, in order to better service it later.
