Security module compatibility
Answered
Hi, I note that the security module can take wired PIR's and external sirens.
What devices did you test with this? I would like to try using wired PIR's in rooms with an external wired siren. Note that I am in the UK.
Thanks

Some question for you to consider:
1)( Does the security module work like a regular alarm system (i.e. power an external siren, sense movement via wired PIR's and wired door/magnetic contacts?).
2) How would you typically wire up the security module? Seems like the sensors wire directly into the Security module but is that correct?
3) What about an external wired keypad?
4) What about an existing wired control module - where all the current PIR's and sensors attach?
5) The instuctions indicate a +IN +IN but what does that mean?
6) When developing this module, which PIR's/Sensors/Keypads/Sirens did you test it with?
Thanks in advance.

1. Yes.
2. Yes. To get a feeling for the wiring, see some wired alarm panel installation manual such as http://www.gargoylesecurity.com/DownloadableFILES/PC1616-PC1832-PC1864INSTALLATION.pdf or http://www.paradox.com/Downloader/?T=URL&URL=/Documentation/Manuals/ARCHIVES_InstallationProgramming/7X8ULT-EI01.pdf
3. They are usually proprietary to alarm panel and as such ATM can only be wired to corresponding alarm panel
4. We support interfacing with DSC and Paradox alarm panels via serial modules (IT-100 and PRT3).
5. General purpose optically insulated input, senses voltage between IN+ and IN-.
6. Generic contact sensors and wired sirens from DSC and Paradox, see answer 2.

Hi. Thanks for the answers. Just to clarify, if I want my Zipabox to work with traditional wired sensors and wired external siren and also control everything via ~(say) a Zipatab can the security module handle that?
For example, I would want to arm/disarm either via zipatab or maybe even an RFID zwave module but I want all the sensors to link hard wired to the Zipabox.
I ask these questions because I am very disappointed with the distance of working z-wave sensors and repeaters and now believe that hard wiring is the only really secure option for an alarm system.
Maybe z-wave is acceptable for home automation but I cannot believe it is acceptable for security because all a thief needs to do is turn off the electricity and the entire z-wave network collapses.
The only sensors remaining would be the ones that the Zipabox (equipped with a backup module of course) can connect to directly.
Maybe that is why all other vendors of z-wave based home automation systems never push the "security" aspects of home automation.
Personally, I am quite happy that I chose Zipato because at least I have various options - which I would not get with other vendors.
