Zipato Serial Module interface

Need Answer

Hello. I have to control a number of blinds as a replacement for an X10 system. I

think Z-wave is an option, so I am looking for interfacing with the existing

controller through a serial RS-232 port (ASCII strings). I think that the

Zipato Serial Module may be an option, but I cannot find many

documents about it.

  • I assume I can control Z-wave modules (like blind actuators) by sending
RS-232 messages to the module, attached to a Zipabox. Can you confirm?
  • - Are there specific protocols to be followed? Can we program our own ASCII
strings to create Z-wave commands to the receivers?
  • - Can you provide examples of the communication with external devices?
  • - Is there any manual or document explaining how to implement this
    communication?

Thanks!

I think the serial module is limited to some very specific devices. It's a bit misleading.

Thank you David.

The product can be purchased out there. Any information about the compatible devices? Any information about the used protocols?

Honestly I don't remember. I saw something once, maybe on this forum. Have a search and see if you can find it.

I asked this question myself! Haha

Here someone seems to suggest it's only used for "alarm panels".

I get the feeling I saw something else somewhere, but I'm not sure.

Thanks so much. I have also opened a ticket. There should be more information about it.

I need to connect to a HAI Omni (Leviton), an alarm and home automation device. I can program ASCII strings to be sent through the serial port, but I need to know if they can match the Zipato Serial Module side.
